VCD's aren't all that bad. But makes sure your DVD player supports them. My DVD player is Dual lasered, can play CDs and DVDs thus allowing it to play VCDs. All of todays new players have this option I think, either the laser is a hybrid or it's got a dual laser.

Well..... actually.....

Most DVD players can play CDs, however many don't have the code to play VCDs since they are a unique format. (my Mom's player will play CDs and MP3 CD's, but does not support VCDs to our disapointment).

VCDs are encoded with MPEG-1 format video and most normal CDs hold about 65-70 min of video... there is a SVCD format which uses MPEG-2 compression, but that's a different animal (and I'm not sure if it's supported by players with VCD support).

CD-Roms should be able to play back VCDs as well with the correct software, but I can't check it because the VCD that I made is at my Sister's house (Red Vs Blue videos).


Anyhow.... the idea is pretty cool....

I know someone went one step further with Anachronox and did a movie from the story of the RPG by combining in-game video with recorded sections of gameplay.

Answer? Just make it into a low bandwidth DVD! You can cut the quality and have up to 6 hours on a DVD. That's how the Hong Kong Pirate anime sets work.

DVD burners for 150-. You can get A +/-R and +/- RW drive for about 150 at circuit city. Here's a hint= -r discs play on ALL PS2's. +r discs play only on new PS2's. ^_^.

I think X-box is the other way around... ON X-box, only +R's work (and only if you have the remote) and maybe new X-boxes can play -R discs... And Gamecube, of course, can't play either... Many home DVD players can't play either + or - discs. Most can only play one or the other.

What are you talking about 15 formats? VCD CDV SVCD SCDV and all of that crap? Those are all the SAME format of burn. The same type of disc. That is not the case with the DVD - r and +r. Those are two entirely different types of discs.

There are only 6 formats

Cd-r
CD-rw
DVD-R
DVD+r
DVD-RW
DVD+RW

The combo DVD RW+/- drives can burn and play all formats except CD-RW...

I don't count DVD-ram. It belongs in another category because it won't play in ANY other drives... (because it has to be contained)

Since Blu-ray required a whole new type of technology, I'll put that in another category as well... Even so, that only brings the total to 9. Where are you getting the other 6 from?

There are other formats... There's the "stamped" format. That brings the total to 11, but there aren't stamper "burners". To stamp requires the expensive creation of the said, uh, stamp...

I suppose you could count Laserdiscs... I don't know if there's a laserdisc burner, though... Even if there were, I suppose you could bring that up to 14, even though technically LD's are really the same format as CD's, just a lot bigger.
