Sister may have thyroid problems again

Some of you may remember my prayer request last year (I think right after I joined) for my sister, who was having thyroid problems that -- thank the Lord -- were never cancerous.

Well, she went today and they said that she has 2 new nodules and a cyst in the area of her thyroid. The doctor now doesn't want to give her the same medicine that worked last year, since it will also weaken her bones. But she has to have something to reduce and get rid of the nodules and cyst.

Please pray for her, everyone, that everything will turn out as well as it did last year for her.

The thyroid is a gland in your neck. It makes a hormone called thyroxine, which is something like the body's throttle control, responsible for modulating metabolism. Too much and your body's metabolism skyrockets out of control; too little, and you lose the ability to properly generate energy.

Thyroid nodules can be treated in a few ways, but the biggest worry with them is if one becomes cancerous. Rogie, have they attempted to get a sample of the new ones?

No, they haven't gotten samples as of yet. She's going to the doctor tomorrow, so I'll be able to tell y'all more about what's going on.

By the way, Shooraijin, thanks for explaining the thyroid to the thread here; I didn't really know about what it does, either, so I appreciate it!
