friends

Postby Lynna » Mon Sep 13, 2010 8:39 pm

to make a pretty long story short, I have no friends in my grade/class. I live in a pretty small town, so there aren't a lot of people to be friends with. I have friends, just none in my grade....and a lot of the friends I do have have been really busy.
The kids in my class are all fairly nice, but I can't help feeling that their very...worldly. I can't help thinking that even if I did make friends with them, they would onl be half-hearted friendships.
It's kind of tough being alone. Most of my classmates ignopre me, for the most part. I feal kind of alianated. It's especially hard when the teachers order us all to get into groups and whoever's paired up with me is rather annoyed because they'd rather be with someone else.
I don't have very good social skills. I might sound really hyper and load online, but with people I don't know to well I get realy quiet and shy and---to be honest---I'm scared
Sorry for all this complaining. Can you please Pray that God will send me someone within my own grade to be friendly with so I don't have to be so alone? And also can you pray that I'll be able to overcome my social fears. Thank You!!!!

Will be praying , I've dealt with the same thing almost my whole life V.V So I know how it is. Keep hope! God will bring the right friends :) I know how it is being shy, its hard V.V...but you know Though I've had these problems all my life this year I finally have friends yays! So there is hope, I think for some of us it takes longer. Also with the kids you say are worldy, I believe its a good thing to have non christian friends, I would try to be friendly with them and if its Gods will maybe some of them will be your friends :). Just rember be in the world but not of the world. I personally think there's nothing wrong having non christian friends, just don't fall into sin because of them.

If you need to talk to someone that's gone through the same thing I'd be happy to talk more :) Hope it all works out, praying for you!

Bawww, Lynna, this makes me want to hug you ;__;

Makachop is right. And I think it's perfectly understandable to be scared- people that you don't know very well sure are intimidating! Be friendly and be yourself :3 and trust in God, He'll provide you with what you need!

I actually think that you being a friend to someone that isn't a Christian could very well benefit the other person, as long as you are steadfast in your faith... that happened when a girl came to my Christian school and sooo many people made fun of her and were rude to her (as sad as it is to admit) because she liked dark things, she dressed "gothic," and she wasn't a Christian. But I befriended her, and after some time, she became a Christian as well and really changed for the better. :)

But, in any case, whatever you do, show God's love in all of your actions, and people may very well notice something "different" about you (it may sound like this might never happen, but trust me, I thought that until it happened to me.)

I'll pray for you, Lynna! I'm rooting for you! ^__^ And I'm here to talk to too, if you ever want to!

To be perfectly honest, I'm exactly like that too. I get paranoid about what I say when I should just go out there and say something.

I hope this encourages you.

I totally understand what you're going through! I had a very similar situation in one of my classes last semester, combined with a general difficulty finding good friends in town who were also followers of Christ (in fact, I'm still struggling with the latter). Definitely praying for you!

Hang in there. I'm more or less struggling with this too, so I want you to know that you're not alone with this. I know how hard it is trying to get to know new people or even just starting conversations. I've been having difficulty finding friends at my school and in my classes too.Things like this take time and practice, but little by little you'll find that it becomes less stressful. Above all else, just keep moving forward and put your trust in God.
I hope things work out okay.

I would've totaly been considered one of those kids that was "worldly"- I don't go about professing my faith, or wear iconic jewelry, and am very much into the secular world since I live in it and feel a need to know what's going on around me so I don't miss anything. Trust me, even "worldly" kids don't mind having religious friends. I have plenty of friends that are both Christian and non-Christian alike, and they're all very wonderful people. But if they're avoiding you, it really might not be because they don't like you or something, it's probably because you avoid them (being shy can be seen as the same thing). If you approach one that's always been friendly in what interactions they have with you, you might be in for a pleasant surprise :)

Praying that things work out okay!

I was totally where you are when I was in high school and a lot of my college years...Hang in there! Pray that God will send you someone that will be an encouragement to you and strengthen you like iron sharpens iron.

In hindsight, I found that CAA was a great outlet for me to grow in my faith, although one shouldn't depend on a website alone.

The best thing to do in this situation is get involved in as many activities as you can. Become a little vulnerable and take a few chances! (healthy ones, don't go party it up where alcohol is served because that could lead to some problems ^^; )

But a great thing to have is self-confidence. Like dogs, people can smell fear! (Well not really SMELL ) but we can always sense when there is unease in other people and that causes an uneasy emotion in us too...

Just learn to love yourself, and others will love you too!

*hugs* hang in there! Praying for you!

Absolutely! That happened to me half way through elementary school, actually I had to make friends with the next grade so I could even be able to see my backpack... (It was very traumatic) but I made so many good friends in that grade, they are still my most common friends!

Again will be praying, I'm sure God will send you somebody to be great friends with!

Have you looked for a Christian club? (All my Christian teachers left so I have to try to start one up now)
And this I pray, that your love would abound still, more and more with real knowledge and all discernment. Be prepared to preach the gospel at a moment's notice. Do you know the gospel well enough to do so yourself? Be ready.

Hey, I'll pray for you. I kind of have a pretty good idea what it's like to feel alone or like a stranger. It's not easy, especially when you just don't know what you would even say to people to start a friendship... :/

Unfortunately, it's not always easy to bring out humor, especially if it doesn't come naturally to you. And since everyone's sense of humor differs, that makes it even more difficult.

Thank you everyone for all Your Prayers and Encouragement.

I know it's good to have some non-christian friends, and most of them are. And when I said "Worldly" I actually didn't mean non-christian, because some of them go to church and one of them once said she was a christian (doesn't seem to be that way right now though...) It's just, they all kind of interested in the same things, talk about the same things conform, etc.and a lot of them do go to parties and drink. I guess This should be even more of a reason to be friends with them, I just feel like we have very little in common. I actually do Know a girl who likes anime, and we've talked before, but she's mostly into Horror/mature manga/anime , whereas I am not.

There is no christian club, unfortunately, but there is a youth Group. I haven't been to it
in a year. The People who run it are awesome, but I've always had the impression that the vast majority who go to it are just there for fun, and are neither christian nor really care about it. I'm going this Friday, though, and see how it goes for me ^_^

I just joined the drama club, and it's always easier for me to relax and be myself with my friends around (some are in the drama club) and when I'm acting and goofing off, rather than in class, so this is good ^_^ I hope to make friends in it :)

As for Humor, yes, it works, but society is so touchy today. One out-of-place joke and people will shun you for life. I'm afraid I'm not very good at jokes...but I'm a real goof when around my friends, because I know it doesn't matter

Again, thanks for all the advice, prayers, and encouragement. It's really nice to know I'm not alone! I'm really grateful! ^_^

I'm really happy to see that you're taking steps, going places, and joining clubs. I hope that some really great friendships come out of those. :)

Yeah ^_^ it looks like Youth Groups going to be great this year! There's acctually only one girl from my class, and although I know she's a christian I can't help having the fealing she has, or had, a bit of a grudge against me... but I'll work on that. I'm trying to talk to some of my classmates a little bit every day, and do things slowly. After all, nothing much's going to happen all at once. Thank you all so much, and keep praying ^_^
