If you want to, you can pray for me. I posted this in my livejournal, but since nobody actually cares about my LJ, I might as well put it here. On second thought, it's probably better that most people from CAA don't see my LJ. So, forget I said that. Anyway, here is my problem.

Currently, I am quite close to becoming an agnostic. This has nothing to do with my dad, which is why I feel I would be unable to discuss it with my pastor, as he would more than likely assume that is the case.

I have had a lot on my mind recently, and am finding it quite difficult to retain my faith. There is just way too much stuff that doesn't make sense to me. As a logical person, obviously this presents many problems.

To make matters worse, many people that I am friends with seem to hold the idea that logic holds no place in the Christian faith, making me even closer to giving it up.

You can pray for me. However, in my current state, I don't really believe in the power of prayer at the moment.

I just thought I'd put this information out there.

Hmm, I am curious why exactly you think logic has little place in the Christian faith. I think this is rather ironic as I myself was an agnostic but came to believe the evidence for the truth of Christianity was sufficient to convert, without any outside influence from anyone. My title of "Skeptical Christian" is an apt description for me, although this doesn't mean that I reject or have great doubts about the pure Nicene evangelical faith, merely that I maintain a logical attitude to my dealings, my own take on this matter is very close to that which fellow skeptical Christian Kyle puts forth at http://www.skepticalchristian.com/skeptical_christian.htm . I also don't think a skeptical attitude is antagonistic to the Christian faith. For example, I have done a good deal of study of the prophecies by our Lord Yeshua Christ, and have found that they have been fulfilled with an impressive level of precision. However, if one were to pose the question of whether they were written after the events or other such evasions, I would not merely employ the cop-out that the Bible states that they were authentically said by Yeshua, and therefore were, but rather offer reasons why I think they are authentic. Perhaps we should talk over A.I.M.

I beg to differ, Logic and faith can be closely related.

In the 14th century everyone believed the world to be flat, if you believed different you where put to death or called crazy.

Though in the bible
Isaiah 40:22: He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth,
and its people are like grasshoppers. ..
Now science proves the world to be round.

William Harvey discovered the circulation of blood in 1616, but Moses mentioned it 3000 years earlier.
Leviticus 17:11 - For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood that makes atonement for one's life.

The science of hydrology has only been around for a few centuries, but Job mentioned it 3000 years ago.
Hydrology - study of the properties, distribution, and effects of water on the earth's surface, in the soil and underlying rocks, and in the atmosphere.
Job 36:27-29 : He draws up the drops of water,
which distill as rain to the streams ; the clouds pour down their moisture and abundant showers fall on mankind. Who can understand how he spreads out the clouds, how he thunders from his pavilion?

I mean God has been nothing but right when it comes to logic; he created this world, who would know more? But I can see where you are coming from. Life can be difficult at time. Sometimes you find yourself asking, why does God let things like this happen? The truth is, we are all sinners. We rebell from God, and because of that bad things will happen. Satan has a very strong influence on the people of earth. But remember God is always with you.

Isaiah 40:31 But those who wait on the LORD will find new strength. They will fly high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint."
The healing may not be immediate but just have faith. God does care for you. I'll be praying for you buddy. Keep fighting

I hear you, kaemmerite. I too have difficulties with certain aspects of our faith, especially some parts of the Old Testament. For me it comes down to trusting in the Lord, that He will reveal the Truth to me and will (and He has) give me evidence to support my faith. Ultimately it comes down to faith, obviously God could prove every Truth to us if He wanted, but I believe He wants us to accept on faith. And for some that's harder than for others. It was and to some degree continues to be for me as well. So I will pray.
