feeling very weak right now

Postby Arbre » Sat Nov 06, 2004 9:01 pm

I'm having a really difficult time right now with where I need to place my faith.

In March, I converted to Christianity from Mormonism. After a long talk tonight with one of my former high school friends who is also a Mormon, I just can't seem to shake some feelings... The topic wasn't even about religion. She doesn't even know I'm not Mormon anymore.

I just feel like my faith is way, way too weak right now, and I'm afraid. It feels like if I tried just a little, I could force myself back into Mormonism. More like fall back into it. And as a huge bonus, I know all my family would be thrilled...

I don't know what's wrong with me. Just earlier today everything seemed great, at least as far as my relationship with God was concerned. And a few weeks ago I'd just had a big confirmation of my faith. I can mentally acknowledge that, but I'm not feeling it. Instead I'm unsure now, and I don't know why.

Edit: Also, for various reasons, I'm feeling really alone right now. I have a few good friends online, but no one here. It's getting hard. I want to move somewhere where there are people my age I can talk to face to face... I feel so lost and confused with just life in general. I don't know what to work towards, where God wants me to be, what's expected of me. I just want some clear cut rules to follow, you know? 'Cause everything I work for seems like a mistake... and I don't know what I'm supposed to do.

"The advice I like to give young artists, or really anybody who’ll listen to me, is not to wait around for inspiration. Inspiration is for amateurs; the rest of us just show up and get to work. If you wait around for the clouds to part and a bolt of lightning to strike you in the brain, you are not going to make an awful lot of work. All the best ideas come out of the process; they come out of the work itself. Things occur to you. If you’re sitting around trying to dream up a great art idea, you can sit there a long time before anything happens. But if you just get to work, something will occur to you and something else will occur to you and something else that you reject will push you in another direction. Inspiration is absolutely unnecessary and somehow deceptive. You feel like you need this great idea before you can get down to work, and I find that’s almost never the case." - Chuck Close[/color]

I don't know you. I know OF you, but I don't know you.

However, you most certainly have my prayers regarding this issue.

Mormons do a good job of converting Christians from the truth, because when you say, "Well, as a Christian, I believe this," the Mormons will invariably say, "Oh, well we believe that too!"

The fact is that the whole faith is based on some nut who says that an angel gave him some golden tablets that only HE could read. This is a sign of a cult; God gave his truth to EVERYONE, not a select special few.

I will certainly pray that you stay strong, as you're not the only one who's been tempted by them. They do a good job of it.

I think perhaps the worst thing that Satan can do to us is cause us to doubt God.

I will pray for you - that you would rest in God's assurance.

And I really feel for you on the issue of friends... I know exactly what it's like!

i will be praying that God will send you someone that you can fellowship with. we need others especally when we are new an young in our faith. God never intended for us to be alone. He has intended for us to fellowship.

Proverbs 27:17
As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.

Gal 6
1Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted. 2Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.

I am sure there are alot of people on this site who feel this way but i will say it, if you ever need any help youcan ask me i will try and help and if there is nothing i can realy do i will pray, and is something alot of us need to do more often.

I believe Mormons actually do consider themselves Christian. Their faith is in fact based on the bible. The issue is that they have additional scripture. I've known quite a few mormons, some of which were very good friends of mine, and I've always had a very good impression of them, as they were all very nice people.

I will pray for you. Sometime in our lives we are faced w/ trouble and we start to question our faith. But remain strong. THere is always a reason for the trails we go through, but have faith. It will all work out. Now about feeling lonely. I can relate. A couple days ago I posted a long thread about that. I had to step back and reaally examine my life for about 2days . I asked myself many questions, Is there where I need to be w/ God etc.. After doing so I found that God had made me a stronger person due to it. Even though I couldn't seeit, I found that there are people who do care for me and most certainly you too. It just took some time to realize. Also, most of my friends goto college out of state or a couple hundred miles away. It can feel quite lonely at times and I can see where you are coming from. I will pray. Keep on smiling.

I've felt the same way about my faith too. Ask questions and try to find the answers in the bible or ask someone here questions bia pm's. The best way to stop yourself doubting is to ask the questions that are troubling you.

Whenever i feel lonely i try to get myself doing something and keep myself busy like watching anime. Something i can really get into. Inactivity and loneliness go hand in hand. so try to find something to do.

I will pray for you as well.

They do consider themselves Christian but... they aren't, let me streamline a few reasons.

1. They belive that that God the father had sex with Mary(ir no virgin birth

2. They belive that God the father was a man on another planet who became a god because he followed the rules of mormonism on another planet.

3. They belive that men and women can become gods/goddessess if they followed the rules of mormonism(similar to the lie that satan tempted Adam and Eve with back in Gensis)

4. The temples, Jesus said that He has done nothing in secret, if the mormons follow the Bible why don't they allow non-mormons inside their temples?

Do I need to go on?

Come on vyse, she didn't come for people to criticise others' religion. She came for some prayer support.

Edit:
Just remain strong Arbre; Jesus will always be there in times of need. Sometimes we have to do a bit of soul searching to find ourselves. But I'm still praying for ya. Keep smiling, that also helps :P

I'm not critizing, I'm just stating the facts, shouldn't she know the reasons not to go back to mormonism?

You're in my prayers, Arbre.

I don't know exactly what to tell you...Paul's words in 2 Corinthians 12:7-10 (particularly verse 9) are all that come to mind right now.

I hope your spirits are lifted soon. You have a lot of support from fellow CAA members already, but if you ever want to talk, I'll be willing to listen and try to help you. God bless.

I don't agree with what the mormons believe, and you obviously don't either. But I think we should be tolerant of other people's beliefs and accept that not everyone believe what we believe. Even if we're right and they're wrong, doesn't mean we have to treat them with anything less than respect.

Don't get me wrong I never said we should disrespect them or go around comitting hate crimes against them, but as Christians we should try to share the true gosple of Christ with them.

EDIT: Arbre says thank you and she's feeling better

well, I will consistantly keep you in prayer. to me, this sounds like an attack of the enemy, Satan loves to try and break our walk with God, and he hates it you are a true believer now, you need to call on God for help, rebuke Satan, and try to pull through, be consistant in your walk with God, don't give up, read your Bible, pray, and if you have any, watch biblical videos (some Nest Entertainment ones were really good). May God lift this doubt and grief from you, may He strengthen you and lift you up and bring you peace.
if you ever need someone to fellowship with or talk to, you can come to us, we're all here for you, you can either talk here, PM me, email me, whatever feels the best to you. :thumb:

The only thing I want to add is that you shouldn't be too concerned about dryness of emotions or prayers. Every person goes through these times, but they don't last forever. St. John of the Cross wrote a good book about it entitled The Dark Night of the Soul , it is good spiritual reading.

I can't access the Internet at home for a while (that's why this reply is late), but I wanted to thank you all for replying and praying. Every post was really appreciated. Thank you so much. And the verses that were shared are comforting. Thank you.

I am doing better. I'm not thinking of going back to that religion anymore. And despite not having any friends nearby, I'm ok right now. There are a lot of friendly people at church, even if they're not my age. I have a lot to be grateful for.

Again, thank you very very much for your prayers and what was posted and for all the help you all have given me in the past too.
